A cat joke from Ilanka

Hello guys and dolls. There's an old saying that everybody gets their 15 minutes of fame. If so, this blog has something to look forward to. I have no cats to my name at the moment but I have a cat joke that I'd like to share with you:

Ten crazy people wished to escape from mental hospital. They waited for the dark to fall and formed a straight line at the exit.  Each one of them wailed like a cat when passing by the guard on the way out. The last man passing forgot what to do and yelled: I'm a cat too, I'm a cat too!

Happy new year from Ilanka

Welcome yet again to Giacomettisfriends

Weeelll, here we go again. For the third time in seven years or so we are forced to pack and gather what we can of our puir belongings and move to yet another dwelling place, courtesy of Blogger from the house of the Brin and Schmidt (Google). The times are hard on many people, it's been said, so we shouldn't complain a lot about it.
Anyhow, once a Giacometti friend, always a Giacometti friend.
We do hope you'll keep on being keen on Giacometti (RIP) and his many devoted friends. So don't hesitate to drop a line, wag your tail or leave a scratch mark of approval. In short - mak yer wee sel' at hame!!!

Birthday party

A week or so ago we held a modest celebration for two of the cats, Wimbelina and Joely Pants both three years old on the day. Naomi sadly enough didn't make it, she passed away suddenly two months ago. On the day, the cats received a special treat - a cake made of torskerogn, cat biscuits and cream cheese on top. Torskerogn is canned cod eggs, a popular dish for humans in Denmark. There are many different brands and the price and quality varies a lot. A danish paper carried out a test of different brands of torskerogn recently. The main finding was, there ain't much cod eggs in torskerogn despite the name. So what's in it for God's sake? Difficult to tell but mainly eggs from other fish types like catfish who are more prevalent in the sea water these days and hence easier to catch. All the six cats received a small cake made of the mentioned dubious ingredients. We were expecting a ferocious devouring of the cakes but instead the cats acted strangely disengaged, hardly bothering to take a bite, as if they were guests at some diplomatic reception where people are sipping and munching with impressive self control, due probably to having dined elsewhere beforehand (or plan on binge eating in the aftermath). We are still at a loss as to why that was so, maybe the recipe wasn't right or maybe the cats came full to the party. A little downer that was really, but hey, that's life - you can't always get what you want!

The new workie on the block

Yesterday we were out searching for Aerial. He never came in for his dinner the night before and that was enough to trigger some amount of disquiet in us on his little behalf, the reason being his remarkable regularity of conduct when it comes down to food. He won't skip a meal for neibody.
So out we went on a search and find mission in the neighborhood on the eve of the danish Labour Day that happen to coincide with May Day aka The First of May. A perfectly balanced evening it was, not too cold and not too warm, not to humid and not too dry or dark, in fact, not in the least dark. The only thing slightly off key was our apprehensive and worrisome soul dragged further in the direction of despair by memories of previous futile searches for other missing felines.
As we trudged along trying not to breathe heavily in order to be able to listen ever so carefully to the slightest signs of life, we passed a factory building belonging to our neighbor. Peeping inside the window frame we saw a perfect version of Aerial looking up on us from floor position where you'd expect to find a worker.
Our reconstruction of the chain of events has since led us to believe, Aerial has joined the labour force as a common workie in a plastic factory. He must have grown tired of idleness. Or maybe he's attracted by the prospect of becoming a cat of independent means. Either way, upon entering the factory room accosted by the owner, Aerial gave a squeak, jumped off from one of the work surfaces and ran straight towards us, visibly relieved to end his shift.
But something tells us he will be back for more in his overalls and safety helmet. So if you happen to see a worker's rally today, be on the lookout for Aerial - he might just be one of the good looking guys passing you by.
